I teach some of that, but far more important than any tool or technique is who you are. You see, the delivery all depends on the deliverer.
People want to follow someone who is self-aware and true to that knowledge. According to this great read on Inc.com, self-awareness builds trust and credibility, and breeds innovation and agility. When people see that they don't have to be perfect and that mistakes are ok they take more risks which is the foundation of innovation.
So where do you start with self-awareness? For years I've been teaching folks to develop a one-page "Profile of Self." This is a simple tool that you can use to organize the many facets of your identity so they are easier to articulate. A simplified version of my profile looks like this:
